As water manager, the Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard attaches the highest value to a clean and safe living environment. When making the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Berkenwoude more sustainable, it was therefore a hard requirement that the chosen energy solution should not create any new environmental impact. That is why Solarge SOLO panels were explicitly chosen. Because these solar panels are 100% PFAS-free, there is no risk of harmful chemicals (forever chemicals) leaking into the soil or water. This fits in perfectly with the water board's core task: protecting water quality.
The realisation of this project was carried out by installer Saman. They installed a total of 192 Solarge SOLO panels at the site. Our next-generation solar panels stand out for their lack of toxic substances, light weight and fully circular design. Saman ensured a flawless and efficient installation at the site, which means that the WWTP is now generating a significant proportion of its own green electricity immediately.
With the commissioning of this project, WWTP Berkenwoude is taking a very concrete step towards climate-neutral operations. The installed Solarge SOLO panels - bearing the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze seal of approval - prove that the energy transition can take place cleanly, responsibly and without harmful residues. The Water Board is thus showing decisiveness and setting a new, responsible standard for sustainable energy generation within the vital infrastructure.
